NAJRA — A PRIVATE, INTELLIGENT HOME.

NAJRA thinks ahead.
Taking care of home, so you can take care of life.

An intelligent presence for your home and family — understanding what matters, taking care of the everyday, and giving you more time for the things that matter.

Hello 👋
I'm NAJRA.
What would you like to know?

Website demo only — not connected to the NAJRA system.

WHY NAJRA

There are plenty of smart home products.
So why build another one?

Because a genuinely simple question should not hit a wall on a device that's supposed to be the smart one in the room.

“Sorry, I don't have an answer for that.”
“I don't know.”

That is the sentence that got me here. Not a missing feature, not a broken automation — just the sheer number of times a genuinely simple question becomes complicated.

NAJRA won't get everything right either. But the bar I'm building toward is a system that tries harder before it shrugs — one that actually knows your home and the people in it well enough to be useful, not just responsive.

THE IDEAA home that understands you, protects you, and quietly takes care of the small things.

THE VISION

A home that just works —
without you thinking about it.

Someone walks into a room and simply talks to the house, the way you'd talk to a crewmate. No apps to hunt through, no dashboards to configure — the assistant is just there, quietly useful.

01

Understands context

Rooms, people, routines and what is happening around the family become part of one context.

02

Acts quietly

NAJRA handles the boring things in the background instead of turning every action into another decision.

03

Stays with you

A mobile experience keeps the family connected when they are away from home.

04

Protects by default

Local-first is both a security and privacy choice: what happens inside your home should stay inside.

WHAT IT DOES

Smart, simple, and
quietly watching your back.

Every feature exists to remove a decision, not add one. Fewer screens, fewer settings — more of the house just handling itself.

Talk to It Like a Person

Natural, room-aware interaction — no wake-word gymnastics, no app-switching. You speak, it understands context.

Protected by Design

Built with a local-first architecture, hardened against external interference and connected-home attacks.

Watches the Garden

Keeps a passive eye on kids playing outside and handles boring tasks such as evening irrigation.

Knows Who's Who

Recognizes people, not just motion, so alerts and automations can understand who is actually there.

Take It With You

A mobile app for checking in, getting notified and stepping in from wherever you are.

Local AI, First

Core intelligence runs close to home wherever possible, testing how far local AI can realistically go.

Privacy by Default

Voice, presence and camera data stay at home by default — no cloud logging or data-broker exposure.

Speaks Every Device

Matter as the backbone, with explicit support for widely-used non-Matter devices such as Shelly and Homematic IP.

Music That Follows You

Personal Spotify, managed centrally. Say “play my songs” and music follows you from room to room.

Room-to-Room Drop-In

Bidirectional intercom between rooms — or straight to a person wherever they are in the house.

Built to Extend to Care

The presence-and-safety architecture is designed to extend toward elderly care and home-safety use cases.

Built in the Open

A personal, transparent experiment — mistakes, learnings and all, not a polished product pitch.

UNDER THE SURFACE

Intuitive on the surface.
Deliberately technical underneath.

The experience hides complexity from the family. The project itself stays open about how the pieces fit together.

Local-first. Matter-compatible. Open to the real world.

NAJRA is an experiment in bringing local AI, Matter, Thread, Shelly, Homematic IP, cameras, audio and family context together without forcing the user to understand any of it.

WHY THIS PROJECT EXISTS

A personal experiment.
Many questions.

Inspired by the vision of the USS Enterprise — a place where humans and technology work together naturally — NAJRA started as a simple question: how close can we actually get to that idea at home?

After many years in the industry, I wanted to build a home that understands more, protects better, respects privacy, and genuinely supports family life.

01 How far can “vibe coding” — building with AI as a real collaborator — actually take you?

02 How usable is local AI, in practice, for something real — not a toy demo?

03 What can I learn by shipping a real, working system instead of reading about one?

04 Can a local-first system speak the real world's language and set itself up without a manual?

FOLLOW THE BUILD

I'm documenting this as I go.
Come argue with me about it.

Progress, dead ends, experiments and open questions get posted as they happen. If any of this overlaps with what you're working on, I'd genuinely like to hear from you.
